About the APW Emergency Medicine Internship

Welcome to our Emergency Medicine Internship for Advanced Practice Providers. This intensive program is designed to provide a dynamic and hands-on learning experience for aspiring healthcare professionals seeking to excel in emergency medicine. As an advanced practice provider, you will embark on a transformative journey that combines comprehensive didactic education with real-world clinical exposure.

Throughout the internship, you can expect to gain proficiency in a wide range of skills essential for emergency care. Our expert faculty will cover such topics as: triage protocols, acute trauma management, emergency diagnostics, the nuances of rapid decision-making, and advanced procedures. You will have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, and advanced practice providers to hone your clinical judgment and enhance your ability to navigate high-pressure situations.

Our curriculum is carefully crafted to expose you to diverse patient populations and a variety of critical cases. This ensures a well-rounded education that prepares you for the dynamic challenges of emergency medicine. From learning everything from resuscitation techniques to advanced procedural skills, you’ll develop a robust skill set that aligns with the latest evidence-based practices.

Furthermore, our internship places a strong emphasis on fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Program Details

There are two program duration options:

  • A 6-month program designed for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners with a minimum of 1-year post-graduation experience working in the field.
  • A 1-year program tailored for new graduates with less than 1-year post-graduation experience.

We offer two Cohorts per year:

  • The Spring Cohort will begin April 1st of each year.
  • The Fall Cohort will begin September 1st of each year.
  • Cohort start dates are reflective of both the 6 month and 1-year programs.

Program Eligibility

Candidates are required to possess and maintain the following life support certifications:

  • BLS, ACLS, ATLS and PALS
  • Completion of an accredited PA or NP master’s program
  • Pass the PA or NP National board examination.
  • Obtain a State license and DEA for Wyoming
  • Be able to successfully pass an employment background check and drug screening.
  • Program eligibility requirements must be satisfied a minimum of 45 days prior to the start date.

Application Process

    • The window for application is left open year-round- however depending on the cohort applied for will determine how soon you may hear from us about the interview phases.
    • Applications must be submitted at least 90 or more days before the start of the desired cohort.
    • After applying, applicants can expect to receive an email within the next 3 business days detailing the next steps.
    • Applicants are asked to complete any requested paperwork within a timely manner, failure to do so may result in loss of eligibility.

    What’s Involved 

    • Didactic education
    • Opportunity available at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and Ivinson Memorial Hospital
    • 30-36 hours/week of clinical education with preceptor
    • 8-10 hours per week of classroom instruction
    • Repetitive, hands-on education in simple and advanced procedures
    • EKG interpretation course and emergency radiology course

    • $4,500/month salary
